City of Grande Prairie (GPREP)

GPREP members are invited to participate in the upcoming Alberta Support and Emergency Response Team (ASERT) and GPREP joint functional exercise!

This year, ASERT is bringing its provincial exercise to Grande Prairie and partnering with GPREP to create a large-scale, hands-on learning opportunity for our region.

The exercise will simulate an emergency response to a hazardous goods spill impacting Bear Creek within the City of Grande Prairie. This is a unique opportunity to practice emergency response in a safe learning environment, work alongside regional and provincial partners, and gain experience in roles you may be called upon to support during a real emergency.

  • Time: 8:00am - 4:30pm (please speak to your supervisor for any OT, this will be through your own department. Or let us know if you will arrive at 08:30).
  • Location: Ernie Radbourne Pavilion and the Museum

Who can participate?

Everyone is welcome, regardless of your level of emergency management experience.

Even if emergency management is not part of your regular municipal role, exercises like this help GPREP build regional capacity and prepare people to support our communities when emergencies occur.

Municipal employees from the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, and Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley are encouraged to participate.

Please remember to obtain your supervisor's approval before registering.

How can you participate?

The registration form on this page includes a few questions to help us understand your experience and where you would most like to participate. If you have a preferred role or section, let us know and we will do our best to place you there.

Not quite ready to jump into an exercise role? You are also welcome to participate as an observer. This is a great way to gain exposure to an emergency response, see how the different roles work together, and decide whether you would like to become more involved in future exercises or emergencies.

Don't worry if you're not sure where you fit. Part of the purpose of the exercise is to learn, practice and gain experience in a supportive environment.

Can't make the full day?

Half-day participation options are available. However, we encourage full-day participation whenever possible to support the flow and continuity of the exercise.
