Irish Sailing Instructor qualifications are respected across Ireland’s outdoor adventure industry and internationally. They represent the highest standards of skill, safety and professionalism, and are recognised through the Sport Ireland Coach Development Programme, the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland).
To be eligible to become an Irish Sailing SBSS Dinghy Instructor you have to meet the following requirements:
- Hold a valid SBSS Pre-entry Instructor Assessment (passed within the last 12 months)
- Hold a national powerboat certificate (endorsed for Tiller and Console) and have a minimum of 20 hrs powerboat experience logged on checklick
- Hold a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate (your course must have consisted of at least 1 full day)
- Hold a valid Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 certificate (please note that many providers will not accept candidates under 18 years of age, courses delivered by Irish sailing are open to any candidates 16+ and are delivered online)
- Hold valid Garda Vetting Clearance (via Irish Sailing)
- while candidates who are 16.5+ will be admitted to the course you cannot be certified as an Irish Sailing Instructor prior to your 17th birthday.
