Pūoro with Koro - A one day workshop

Pūoro with Koro - A one day taster

Date: Saturday 26 September
Time: 10am - 4pm
Cost: $50
Ages: 18+ (no children can attend this session)
Bring: A plate of kai to share for lunch

Led by the highly respected Koroheke Robb, this hands-on session offers a unique opportunity to both learn and experience Taonga Pūoro. With years of teaching experience and depth of knowledge, Koro will guide you through playing a variety of instruments while sharing their whakapapa (genealogy) and cultural meaning.

This one-day taster is designed to introduce you to the world of Māori musical instruments.

What You Will Learn:
Over the course of the day, we will cover:

  • Whakapapa & Atua Association: The origins and spiritual connections of the instruments.
  • Pūrākau & History: The stories and the impact of the Tohunga Suppression Act.
  • How to Play: Practical, hands-on guidance.
  • Mahi Toi: You will also have the chance to create your own taonga to take home

Who is this for?
Whether you are a complete beginner or have prior experience, all are welcome. This is a supportive environment to discover or deepen your connection to these taonga.

What To Bring:

  • You are welcome to bring your own Taonga Pūoro from home for personal guidance. Instruments will also be provided for those who do not have their own.
  • A plate of kai for our shared lunch.

Please note: This is an adult only class, we will look at future opportunities to have tamariki in our space with Koro, so keep an eye out.
