Bonsai Workshop
Bonsai Workshop
The idea of bonsai was born in China during the early Chin Dynasty (A.D. 265-420). The word “pen-tsai,” later becoming “bonsai” pronounced (Bonnzai) referring to potted landscapes using only trees. The idea of bonsai is to create an illusion of a tiny tree that looks like a full scale natural tree or landscape. A bonsai is not a type of tree or plant, but nearly an unlimited variety to choose from. Plants and trees with naturally small leaves help with the illusion of a full sized tree. There are many design techniques to help create the illusion of an old natural tree.
This is a 2-2.5 hour hands-on training to create a living bonsai tree. The workshop will focus on basic concepts for creating and designing a beginner bonsai. Everyone will pick out their own pot and pre-bonsai (supplied) then with the instructor’s step by step guidance will learn how to design our bonsai by trimming, wiring and bending branches. The student will learn about bonsai soil, how to root prune, securely pot the tree, and properly water. There will be examples of popular bonsai styles including: upright, slanted, coiled, twisted trunk, full cascade, semi-cascade, weeping, literati, clump, exposed root, forest, broom, and wind-swept.
Tuition include $100 materials.
Materials supplied: Bonsai Pot, pre-bonsai (Mini Jade), bonsai soil, mesh, sculpting wire, trimmers, and bonsai care sheet.
