Glass Fusing: Pattern Bars with Kirei Samuel

Course Overview: Discover the magic of how glass flows and transforms in this hands-on, three-session workshop. You’ll explore the process of creating a thick glass block by carefully layering strips, fragments and frit into a custom mould, with a focus on how glass behaves during firing.

Once the block has been fired to a full fuse, you’ll move into the cold-working process, developing hands-on skills using specialized glass equipment. Working in a smaller group, you’ll learn how to safely cut your glass using a wet tile saw, revealing the intricate, repeating geometric patterns within. You’ll then use a lap wheel to grind and polish the glass, preparing your individual slices for the final stage of the process.

This workshop offers a fascinating opportunity to explore the technical possibilities of kiln-formed glass while creating a unique piece to take home.

Skill Level: All levels welcome

Workshop Schedule: This workshop takes place over three sessions. Weeks One and Three will be completed as a full group. During Week Two, participants will be divided into two smaller groups of four, providing more focused, hands-on time with the specialized equipment used for cutting, grinding and polishing glass.
