Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview:

Have you always wanted to try watercolour painting but felt unsure where to start? Discover this beautiful, fluid medium in a warm and welcoming environment. Designed specifically for beginners, this two-day workshop will introduce essential watercolour techniques, including colour blending, wet-on-wet washes and layering, while bringing four seasonal landscapes to life.

Through demonstrations and step-by-step instruction, you’ll create four unique paintings:

• An Autumn Forest: Capture the rich, vibrant colours of changing fall foliage.
• Sunset Across the Lake: Learn to mix and blend warm sky gradients.
• Foggy Hills: Explore soft edges and atmospheric depth to create misty horizons.
• Reflections on a Glassy Lake: Learn techniques for capturing reflections and creating the effect of mirrored water.

No previous art experience is required. With demonstrations, guided instruction and plenty of opportunity to practice, you’ll build your confidence with watercolour while creating four completed landscape paintings.

• Two-day workshop
• Saturday, October 17: 9:30 am –4:30 pm
• Saturday, October 18: 9:30 am –4:30 pm

• HST is not included in the price.
• This course takes place at the Port Hope Campus: 10 Pine St S, Port Hope, ON L1A 3E7
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least seven days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made seven days before the start date of the class.

Supplies:

• Paint: Meeden 24 tubes 12 ml $19.95 Amazon
• Brushes: 1" flat, 1/4" flat, #8 or #10 round, Detail brush # 2 or 3 or something fine
• Watercolour paper - 140 pound coldpress 11 x 15
• Support for your paper, like an old election sign or foamcore board
• Palette foam plates or regular bought palette or sta-wet palette or deep-well palette
• Water containers, yogurt tubs work great
• Masking tape 1"
• Pencil and brown gum eraser
• Masking Fluid
• Hair dryer (optional)
• Table cover, like plastic table cloth
