City of Grande Prairie (GPREP)

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) Disaster Risk Reduction Team will begin conducting Zonal Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) sessions in our area and are looking for input from local communities to complete risk assessments for one of Alberta’s top 5 hazards – tornados.

What is HIRA?
The HIRA is a methodology for conducting risk assessments which applies a whole of community approach and a systems model in identifying and assessing hazards that pose the greatest risk to communities across the province and​ the potential impacts of those hazards if they are not mitigated. It is designed to augment, rather than replace, existing risk analysis processes.

Who can attend?
We are seeking input in the following subject areas: utilities, community planning, telecommunications, public works and infrastructure, transportation, public safety, community social services, tourism and hospitality, health, municipal economic development, environment, emergency management, and business continuity.

Please join us if you’re able! We’re looking for people with a variety of backgrounds and expertise to contribute to the discussion. Your experience can help us better understand how a tornado could impact your area of work and what challenges, needs, or considerations may arise.

Please sign up by end of day Nov. 9. This registration goes to GPREP staff who will then register you to attend with AEMA.
