Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: Create an heirloom-quality, rug-hooked Christmas stocking designed to be treasured for years to come. In this two-session workshop, you’ll learn the techniques and skills needed to create your own traditional hooked stocking, with the goal of giving you the confidence and knowledge to make more for family and friends in the future.

Working from a hand-drawn design on linen backing, you’ll learn the rug hooking process before assembling and finishing your stocking by hand. Your finished stocking will measure approximately 8 x 15 inches and will be made using high-quality wool and natural materials chosen for their beauty and durability.

Each participant will receive a complete kit, including a hand-drawn linen pattern, all wool fibre required to hook the front of the stocking, high-quality wool cloth for the back, cotton flannel for lining, hanging trim, a rug hook and a wooden hooking frame. The frame is yours to keep, allowing you to finish your project at home and continue exploring rug hooking after the workshop.

The workshop takes place over two sessions, spaced one week apart to provide time to continue hooking your stocking between classes. Step-by-step demonstrations and individual guidance will be provided throughout. Participants are also encouraged to record the instructor's demonstrations for reference as they continue working independently.

Please note that this is a detailed, completely handmade project. Depending on your working pace, some work may need to be completed at home between sessions or following the workshop.

Skill Level: Suitable for all levels. Some basic hand sewing will be required.

• Material fee of $175.00 is included in the price.
• HST is included in the price.
• This course takes place at the Belleville campus: 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON K8N 5B9
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 7 days before the start date. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 7 days before the course start date.
