Chicago: High School Edition

Grades 8–12

Set in the roaring 1920s, Chicago: High School Edition tells the story of Roxie Hart, an aspiring performer who finds herself behind bars alongside vaudeville star Velma Kelly.

With the help of charismatic lawyer Billy Flynn, Roxie discovers that in a world obsessed with celebrity, scandal can become the fastest route to fame.

Filled with sharp humour, unforgettable characters and iconic music, Chicago explores fame, ambition, media sensationalism and the lengths people will go to remain in the spotlight.

Cast Opportunities

Chicago offers a combination of major principal roles, supporting characters, featured performers and a very active ensemble.

Major/featured roles include approximately 8–10 performers, including:

Billy Flynn

Amos Hart

Matron “Mama” Morton

Mary Sunshine

Fred Casely

Featured Merry Murderesses / Cell Block Tango performers

There are also opportunities for a large ensemble portraying reporters, jurors, dancers, inmates, officials and other characters throughout the production.

Prepare:

Approximately 2 minutes of a song — generally one verse and one chorus.

Choose something that:

Fits the character(s) you're interested in;

Fits the overall style/vibe of Chicago; or

Shows us the kind of performer you are.

Acting - You do not need to prepare a monologue. A reading will be provided at the audition.
