Converting Your Course to Blended and Online - Getting Started

A hands-on introduction to converting an existing face-to-face course into a Web/Technology Enhanced course, covering how to decide which activities to move online, restructure content for asynchronous delivery, and maintain engagement without a physical classroom. Participants work through a simple conversion planning template using one of their own courses as a working example. The session closes with common pitfalls to avoid when moving content online for the first time.

Suggested Learning Outcomes — by the end of this session, participants will be able to:

    • Distinguish between web/technology-enhanced, blended and fully online delivery models.
    • Apply a conversion planning template to restructure one unit of one’s own course for web/technology-enhanced delivery.
    • Identify strategies for maintaining student engagement in the online environment.
    • Compare and contrast traditional instruction and flipped learning.
    • Assess one’s readiness to transition to flipped learning.
    • Develop a strategy to adopt a flipped-classroom approach.
