Prerequisites: Handplane Use and Blade Sharpening or permission of the instructor

This is the Level 2 class for using hand tools in making cabinetry. Students need to have taken Handplane Use and Blade Sharpening) or have the instructor's permission. 

This class will confine itself to mortise & tenons, and dovetails only. It will not involve making any project, but instead will include detailed descriptions of the various chisels and saws used for making mortise/tenons, and dovetails.
We will pick up from where we left off in the Handplane class using squared prepared stock.  Techniques will be taught, and students will practice the best use of these various tools by making joints.
  • Chisels covered: Mortise chisels, bench chisels, paring chisels. 
  • Saws covered: Western style back saws, japanese dozukis. 
  • Other tools:  Marking & mortising gauges, marking knives and pencils, various mallets. 

There is a $15 fee for this class, payable upon enrollment. If you need to cancel your registration after paying, please contact education@rocmakers.org to arrange a refund. We cannot provide refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of class.
