Wildland Roots is excited to host professional puppeteer and puppetry instructor Adam Ende of Jawbone Puppet Theater (Vashon Island) for this unique opportunity to do BOTH puppet making and puppetry performance in the same workshop!

"Cardboard is one of my all-time favorite garbage materials. There are any number of ways of transforming cardboard into beautiful works of art. Sometimes the trick is to manipulate the flat angular cardboard into something 3-dimensional and organic. But in this workshop the trick will be how to create magic with the simplest thing of all—a flat piece of painted cardboard." -Adam Ende

These puppets will at first glance seem like just a piece of simple flat painted cardboard. But each puppet will have its own special transformation to surprise and delight audiences.

The workshop will begin with a show and tell of cardboard puppets by Adam. Then students will begin sketching, cutting and painting their own flat painted cardboard puppets, and finally add the surprising transformative element.

The workshop concludes with pairs of students brainstorming, rehearsing and finally performing little quick shows with their new puppets, for a small audience of friends, family and classmates, in which the magical transformation of their new puppets are on display.

Materials and tools used will include cardboard, scissors, box cutters, special cardboard saws, acrylic paint & brushes, acrylic paint markers, pokey tools, bicycle inner tubes, and creature staplers.
