Join BELT’s Frederick and Chelsea for a fun musical improv jam that will focus on getting you comfortable singing on the spot in front of others. The jam will be a mix of musical improv games and exercises with plenty of opportunity to try things out. Jam participants may also have the opportunity to perform at a Musical Improv show on Nov 27th.

If you are an experienced musician looking to try out accompanying musical improvisers you are welcome as well! We will have a keyboard setup but feel free to bring other instruments (no technical setups please).

Improv experience is required but absolutely no musical/singing experience is necessary.  

This workshop lasts 2 hours with a brief break.  

Bring a water bottle and something to take notes.

About the Facilitators

Frederick Gietz has been improvising for 16 years and playing piano for over 20. He has played for a range of musical shows, from shortform song games to fully improvised musicals. 

Chelsea Fahey is a veteran Ottawa improviser and faculty member of the Improv Embassy. She has taken workshops and performed musical improv and can be often found turning normal speech into songs (to the chagrin of her partner). 

BE GOOD

These jams take place in a welcoming, easygoing space—we’re here to have fun, support each other, and foster a sense of encouragement and community. All participants in the jam are expected to refrain from conduct that is sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory.

Our School’s Code of Conduct requires all participants to respect each other’s boundaries. Refrain from physical contact if you do not have permission from a fellow performer.

Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start on time!

Masks are welcome but not mandatory. If you’re feeling sick, please stay home.
