Mishima Workshop
Learn the decorative surface technique, called Mishima!
Mishima is a surface design technique done by carving into clay and then inlaying a slip of contrasting color into the carved lines in leather hard clay. Students can bring wheel thrown or hand-built pieces to class for Mishima. This fun technique is a beautiful way to add elevated design to pottery.
Your instructor, Liz, has been practicing for 3 years to establish a process that is suitable for students to learn this technique in a class setting.
Minimum age is 14.
Finished clay projects take up to 4–5 weeks. NW Ceramics will email when ceramics are done and ready for pickup. Due to limited storage space, the studio will hold projects for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks (from the date we notify students for pickup) we will have to discard students pieces. Classes include instruction, materials, and kiln firings.
