A DAY AWAY is a 6-hour retreat that focusses on the contrasting and complementary modalities of Emotionally Integrated Voice and Kundalini Yoga. Since the mid ‘90s Katherine and Fides have thoughtfully woven together these expertises as teachers and performers and are excited to share the depth of this history with you.
Time: 11am - 5pm (1 hour for lunch)
Capacity: 8 student
Location: Caledon, ON (approx. 1 hour drive from Toronto. Exact location will be sent following registration). You are welcome to take a walk in the woods if you arrive early or before heading home. Please dress in layers for the studio (it has AC) and appropriately for the outdoors.
Travel: If you are interested in sharing rides/splitting fuel costs, please answer the questions when prompted during registration, and we will place your name and contact info in a shared google doc to assist with coordinating transportation.
Food: snacks and tea/coffee/cold drinks will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.
KATHERINE DUNCANSON:
Katherine Duncanson is an interdisciplinary performer, creative facilitator, voice coach and yoga teacher. She has been a member of the Urge Collective, the Toronto Chamber Choir, Gamelan Toronto and continues to work with many other performance groups and independent artists. As a seasoned Yoga teacher, Katherine is passionate about developing and teaching what she has named KaiShakti Yoga: a form that embraces the principles of Classical Tantric Yoga, Yin Yoga, Energy Awareness, and the Yogas of sound, chant, meditation and breath. Katherine and Fides have been creative collaborators and dear friends for over three decades.
FIDES KRUCKER:
Fides Krucker has created, produced and sung groundbreaking, award-winning work for forty years: intimate salons, electroacoustic opera and interdisciplinary theatre. In 1991 Fides founded the female, interdisciplinary ensemble URGE; their final work was published by Playwrights Canada (2016). She has worked extensively with choreographers Peggy Baker, Louis Laberge-Côté, Lua Shayenne, Jessica Runge and theatre company Lester Trips. In 2019 she released Vanishing with Philadelphia guitarist Tim Motzer, and was praised for her “staggering range and control … a force of nature.” Her book Reclaiming Calliope: Freeing the Female Voice through Undomesticated Singing was published in 2022.
