Open SBD Company Class

Step inside the artistic and physical practice of Sukanya Burman Dance. Created for SBD company dancers and open to intermediate and advanced community dancers, this class offers an opportunity to experience the distinctive movement vocabulary that shapes the company’s work.

Rooted in modern and contemporary dance, Kathak, and Bharatanatyam, SBD’s practice brings together grounded movement, rhythmic complexity, sculptural form, expressive gesture, dynamic footwork, and theatrical presence. Rather than treating these forms as separate techniques, the class investigates how they can meet, interrupt, and transform one another within a contemporary dancing body.

Dancers will build strength, coordination, musicality, spatial awareness, and physical range while being challenged to move beyond familiar habits. Each class will also introduce excerpts from SBD’s repertory, offering insight into the company’s choreographic process and the relationship between technique, cultural inheritance, storytelling, and performance.
