The Weight of Enough: A Collage Study

What does it mean to feel full? In this two hour collage workshop, we'll dig into the Latin roots of saturation, satur (fullness, contentment) and saturare (to fill, sometimes past the point of enough), and ask what those words reveal about our own lives, our art, and the moments we call complete.

There is a particular kind of courage it takes to name what fills us, and what has left us empty. Some of what we carry is easier shown than spoken. This workshop offers a quiet, generous space to explore that difficulty through the hands rather than the mouth, and to discover that art can hold what words sometimes cannot.

Workshop attendees will build in layers, choosing to pile upon or reveal something from a lower layer, working from monoprints, collage papers, found materials, paint, and mark making tools provided in the studio. Along the way, we'll sit with honest questions about where we feel full and where we feel empty, exploring how fullness looks different from the inside than it does to someone looking in. There is hope woven into this process. Every layer we choose to reveal is an act of trust, and every layer we choose to place is an act of care, both for ourselves and for whoever stands before the finished piece. May the work we make together become a place of connection, saturating the hearts of maker and viewer alike.

Before you come: Sit with this question ahead of the workshop: where in your life right now do you feel full, and where do you feel empty? Bring a small paper scrap (8" X 11" or smaller), something torn from a letter, a receipt, a page, a photograph, anything with a personal connection to your answer. This scrap becomes the starting point buried in your first layer.

No experience necessary. All materials provided.

Teacher Bio:

Teresa Davis is a professional artist, art educator, and mother of three who brings both expertise and heart into every classroom she leads. With an MFA in Printmaking/Intermedia and an active studio practice, her work spans a wide range of media including acrylic painting, mixed media, performance, and installation art, with an emphasis on curiosity, process, and intentional design. Teresa is passionate about creating a warm, disciplined, and encouraging environment where students build technical skill, creative confidence, and a genuine joy for making art.
