Workshop Description:
Join ceramic artist Marian Draper for a hands-on workshop exploring the creative possibilities of newsprint transfers as a unique surface decoration technique. Students will spend the first half of the day slab building a couple of simple ceramic pieces, then transform them in the second half with hand painted underglaze newsprint transfers. Experiment with imagery, pattern, and composition to create one-of-a-kind surfaces and discover how a simple pot can become a truly personal work of art. This workshop is a fun and approachable way to expand your ceramic skills while giving your work a distinctive, customized finish.

Please bring a lunch. Light snacks will be provided. Also, feel free to bring greenware from home to decorate on.

About the Artist:
Marian Draper is a utilitarian-focused potter based in Helena, Montana. Originally from Rome, New York, she earned her BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in ceramics from Rochester Institute of Technology. Currently pursuing a long-term residency at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Draper creates wheel-thrown stoneware vessels inspired by botanicals, nature, and the Arts and Crafts movement. Her work explores volume, line, and proportion through elegant forms, floral motifs, and ornate underglaze applications. Draper was named a Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist in 2024.
