This course will introduce you to a variety of software to aid in the production of high-quality documents. Designed for written communications, the course focuses on improving clarity, consistency, and correctness throughout all stages of document review.

You will gain hands-on experience with editing tools and features, including advanced formatting, styles, track changes, and collaborative review functions. The course also covers document version control, conversion, and commenting.

Software covered will include Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Draftsmith/PerfectIt, Antidote, and Grammarly, as well as app-based tools, such as Hemingway Editor.

While this course highlights a variety of tools, it does not explicitly endorse any of them.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Maximize the use of Microsoft Word features, such as spell check, grammar suggestions, and accessibility options, to enhance productivity and consistency 
  • Use and customize shortcuts, automations, and reusable templates within Microsoft Word and other industry-standard software, including PerfectIt and Grammarly, to improve efficiency
  • Evaluate and apply appropriate document conversion methods to ensure compatibility across platforms (eg, PDF, Google Docs, Word), devices, and publication contexts
  • Identify and fix common writing issues with specialized software tools (eg, Word Editor, Wordsmith, Grammarly, apps)
