Led by local artist and educator, Bregan Ford, in partnership with Blanco River Academy, this open air workshop is part of a nature-focused series designed to teach participants the importance of creating with consideration to the environmental impact of materials and techniques. Participants will engage with nature using natural clays and found materials (like sticks, leaves, and pebbles).

What are corn husk dolls?
Corn husk dolls originated in North America among Indigenous groups and the technique was later adopted as a folk art tradition. Husks are soaked until softened then separated, braided, twisted, and tied to create dolls.

Recommended ages.
This workshop is designed for families with children 8-12 years old (3rd-6th grade). Each registration includes two people. All minors must be accompanied by a registered adult 18 years or older.

What's included?
Registration for this hands on 1.5 hour workshop includes all materials and instruction necessary for each participant pair to create one or more corn husk doll. Additional family members may be added during registration within the Available Add-on section.

What to expect.
Participants will receive a relaxed overview of the process, including discussion and exploration, before beginning work. Participants will then use soaked corn husks and found materials to create their works.

This event takes place rain or shine on the front lawn of the Blanco River Academy campus.


What portion of my registration is donated?
A portion of all full price registrations will be donated to Blanco River Academy.
