Leo Luna

Led by local artist and educator, Bregan Ford, in partnership with Blanco River Academy, this open air workshop is part of a nature-focused series designed to teach participants the importance of creating with consideration to the environmental impact of materials and techniques. Participants will create garlands using locally sourced leaves, jute, and a plant-based acrylic paints.

Who is Old Man Winter?
Old Man Winter is the personification of the winter season. The character's origins are in ancient Greek mythology and Old World pagan beliefs though its representation has evolved over time to include characters such as Father Christmas.

Recommended ages.
This workshop is designed for families with children 8-12 years old (3rd-6th grade). Each registration includes two people. All minors must be accompanied by a registered adult 18 years or older.

What's included?
Registration for this hands on 1.5 hour workshop includes all materials and instruction necessary for each participant pair to create one or more Old Man Winter garlands. Additional family members may be added during registration within the Available Add-ons section.

What to expect.
Participants will receive a relaxed overview of the process, including discussion and exploration, before beginning work. Participants will then select leaves, mix colors, and paint the varied faces of Old Man Winter before fastening their creations to a jute garland.

This event takes place rain or shine on the front lawn of the Blanco River Academy campus.


What portion of my registration is donated?
A portion of all full price registrations will be donated to Blanco River Academy.
