NRA Personal Protection In the Home - Instructor Course
Prepare to protect yourself and the people you love.
Responsible home protection begins with preparation, safe firearm handling, and sound judgment. This course helps experienced handgun owners build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to use a handgun responsibly for personal and family protection.
At Not Today Self-Defense, we combine serious training with approachable instruction. Classroom learning and supervised live-fire practice help you strengthen your defensive shooting foundation and better understand the responsibilities of armed self-defense.
Course Focus

- Home safety and personal protection strategies.
- Responding to a violent confrontation.
- Firearms law and self-defense responsibilities.
- Selecting a handgun for personal protection.
- Opportunities for continued skill development.
Prerequisites
Students must be law-abiding adults legally eligible to possess firearms and already proficient in safe handgun handling, basic shooting, sight adjustment, and firearm cleaning.
Prior training or qualification may establish eligibility, including NRA Basic Pistol, NRA FIRST Steps, an NRA pistol qualification card, or documented military pistol qualification. Students may also qualify by passing a pre-course assessment.
Duration: Eight hours, including classroom instruction and range training.
Ammunition: Approximately 100 rounds. Final equipment and ammunition requirements will be provided before class.
Course Materials: NRA student handbook, gun safety brochure, marksmanship qualification booklet, and a course completion certificate upon successful completion.
