LIFE Conference (Session Group B) - From Screen to Reality: A Beginner's Guide to 3D Printing
Tue, Oct 27, 2026, 1:00 – 2:30 PM EDT
Curious about 3D printing, makerspaces, and the growing culture of making? This interactive session will introduce participants to the tools, technologies, and creative possibilities available right here at Loyalist College.
The session begins with Sara Kelleher sharing how she uses 3D printing to create unique and practical projects, demonstrating that making is accessible to everyone with an idea and a willingness to experiment. Participants will then watch a live demonstration as Jeremy Braithwaite creates a 3D model from scratch, showing how an idea becomes a printable object using modern design software. Chris Gorsline will introduce the Loyalist FailSafe makerspace, including available equipment, services, and opportunities for employees and students to bring their own projects to life.
The session will conclude with a guided tour of the FailSafe where participants can see technologies in action, including 3D printers and other fabrication equipment.
No prior experience is required. Whether you are interested in creativity, innovation, problem-solving, or simply trying something new, this session will provide an engaging introduction to the world of making.
