We're taking clay downtown for six Wednesdays. After Rootbound Farms closes for the day, their shop turns into a hand building studio: long tables, good company, and clay on everyone's hands.
THE EVENING
You'll make six pieces in one night, in any shape you can dream up. A classic star or heart. A pickle to hide in the branches. A tiny clay version of your dog, ears and all. Paint them in any colors you like, and add a photo window to as many as you want, then slip in a favorite picture once they're fired: the new baby, the family cat, the friends you only see at Christmas.
Keep them for your own tree, hand them out as gifts, or string a few together into a wall hanging you won't want to take down in January.
WHAT YOU'LL MAKE
- Six ornaments or mini wall hanging pieces, in any shapes you like
- Photo-frame ornaments with a window for the picture of your choice
- Details pressed in with stamps and botanicals
- Color with underglazes, in any design you like
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Everything: clay, tools, stamps, underglazes, aprons, ribbon for hanging, glazing and kiln firing at our studio, and an instructor with you for every step. Just show up ready to get your hands dirty.
GOOD TO KNOW
Clay takes its time. After class, we bring your pieces back to the studio to glaze and fire them, which turns soft clay into ceramic that lasts for years. We'll text you when your set is ready, usually in 2–3 weeks, leaving plenty of time to add photos and wrap them before the holidays.
Making a pet ornament? Bring a photo of them on your phone to work from. Framed photos are added at home after firing.
Never touched clay? Perfect. Most of our students hadn't either.
