Monoprinting & Screenprinting
Monoprinting & Screenprinting for Ceramics
3-Week Surface Design Workshop
Explore the intersection of ceramics and printmaking in this three-week surface design workshop. Students will learn how to incorporate monoprinting and screenprinting into their ceramic practice, creating unique patterns, images, and layers on clay.
We’ll explore two distinct printmaking techniques:
Monoprinting is a printmaking process that produces a one-of-a-kind image using a variety of techniques and materials. Students will experiment with creating unique prints and transferring them onto ceramic surfaces.
Screenprinting uses a photosensitive emulsion to transfer an image onto a mesh screen, allowing you to reproduce the same design multiple times. Students will learn the basics of preparing a screen and using it to print onto clay.
This class is designed for students who are interested in expanding their ceramic surface design vocabulary and experimenting with new ways to incorporate imagery and pattern into their work.
Please come prepared to each class with 3 leather-hard greenware vessels to work on. Vessels should be fully formed and ready for surface decoration before class begins.
No wheel or handbuilding instruction will be provided during this workshop. Students should be comfortable making their own vessels before enrolling.
