Repair License Update Class UT086 | Evaporative Emissions Making it Easy

This UPDATE class satisfies Smog Repair licenses that are expiring in the next 2 years.

This course is designed to help recertifying smog repair technicians meet the 16 hour continuing education requirement required to update their license renewal. 12 hours in this course and the 4 hours on-line completing the Inspector update training. This course is also available to automotive technicians wanting to improve their skills without possessing a smog repair license. Topics covered are Fuel Evaporation leak detection logic, system testing, and leak detection methods. Basic electrical testing procedures using a DMM and DSO. Scan tool testing applying math and system function to produce accurate diagnosis. Several case studies will be used to demonstrate these processes. This is a lecture course that covers 10 hours of lecture with the remaining 2 hours for the review and taking of the final. The final is optional for students not wanting credit for this class for license renewal.

Course Objective:

At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:

a. Identify the components fuel evaporation system.

b. Explain the difference between a large and small fuel evaporation leak.

c. Demonstrate the ability to interpret scan tool fuel evaporation related data.

d. Identify the difference between the different fuel evaporation leak detection methods.

e. Diagnose fuel evaporation system leak codes and other failures.

f. Demonstrate the ability to interpret DSO circuit test results.

With the information learned in this class the student will have the resources necessary to properly diagnose fuel evaporation failures to determine the root cause of the problem. The technician will also be able to use scan tool data and service information more effectively to understand the system being tested and when faults occur. Improving air quality and customer satisfaction through durable repairs.
