VFIS-Emergency Vehicle Driver Training
Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)/EVDT
This Emergency Vehicle Operator Course meets the new 2025 VFIS standards and is designed to provide EMS operators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate an emergency vehicle in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires all EMS operators to successfully complete an approved EVOC prior to operating an emergency vehicle.
Course topics include:
- Legal aspects of emergency vehicle operations
- Navigation and route mapping
- Driver roles and responsibilities
- Basic vehicle handling and driving skills
- Proper emergency and non-emergency driving procedures
- Safe operation of emergency vehicles
This is a 12-hour course conducted over two days. The first day consists of classroom instruction. The second day includes additional classroom instruction, a final examination, and hands-on emergency vehicle driving exercises on a designated driving course.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive 12 hours of Pennsylvania EMS continuing education credits.
Course Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must successfully complete all course requirements
**Approved by Pennsylvania Bureau of Emergency Medical Services to meet EMSVO Requirements**
