Butter Dish Night - Hand Building Workshop at Rootbound Farms
BUTTER DISH NIGHT
Hand Building Workshop at Rootbound Farms
Soft butter, every morning. Your toast will thank you.
We're taking clay downtown for six Wednesdays. After Rootbound Farms closes for the day, their shop turns into a hand building studio: long tables, good company, and clay on everyone's hands.
THE EVENING
You'll build a covered butter dish from slabs of clay: a base with a lip, a lid that fits it, and a knob on top. Then paint it any way you like: scalloped edges, gingham, a little cow on the lid, or one bold color.
Keep it on your counter and never wrestle cold butter again, or bring it as a host gift that gets used at every holiday meal after this one.
WHAT YOU'LL MAKE
- One covered butter dish, sized for a stick of butter
- A base, a fitted lid, and a knob to lift it
- Color with underglazes, in any design you like
- A durable, food-safe finish once it's glazed and fired
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Everything: clay, tools, underglazes, aprons, glazing and kiln firing at our studio, and an instructor with you for every step. This is a full three-hour session, so there's time to get the lid fitting just right.
GOOD TO KNOW
Clay takes its time. After class, we bring your butter dish back to the studio to glaze and fire it, which turns soft clay into ceramic you'll use for years. We'll text you when it's ready, usually in 2–3 weeks, in time for holiday gifting.
Never touched clay? Perfect. Most of our students hadn't either.
