Tessitura: Singing Together on "T"

A singing workshop for transmasculine, nonbinary, genderqueer, and all singers on T, led by singer, teacher, and vocal director, elias wolf.

Tessitura (definition): "the range of pitches in which a voice or instrument sounds best and is used most: the comfortable heart of its range, not its extremes. The word is Italian for “texture”. Your total vocal range is every note you can produce; your tessitura is where your voice actually lives."

Come find your tessitura and celebrate your changed/changing voice in harmony while connecting with others on this journey. Our time together will include vocal exercises/techniques, exploration of the voice and body as instrument, and application of these learnings on a couple of fun 3-part arrangements. Will we use non-gendered voicing (no SATB language) and reading sheet music is NOT a pre-requisite. Welcoming any and all gender-expansive queers who have been/are on gender-affirming testosterone hormone therapy.

elias wolf (they/them) is a heart-forward, moon-guided and water-bound love warrior, vocal sorcerer, and song witch—part performer, part composer, part teacher, part community weaver. elias creates music and shared singing experiences described as "re-humanizing queer song magic for the revolution."

Since 2008, elias has been teaching voice lessons to singers of all ages and genders, and they have been at the helm of over 15 choirs and vocal groups over the past 22 years, including 5-time national champion high school a cappella group Vocal Rush and powerhouse vocal quintet, HIVE. elias is also an award-winning vocal arranger, and their work has been showcased alongside Kehlani, Ben Harper, Pentatonix and the Oakland Symphony Chorus. Their love of organizing singing humans and producing events also led them to found an arts advocacy nonprofit devoted to uplifting marginalized voices in vocal music. elias’ stint as director of University of Oregon’s a cappella group Divisi from ‘03-’06 was the inspiration for the film “Pitch Perfect,” A graduate of Berklee College of Music, elias has six albums to their name including their most recent EP sovereign soul; a sonic sanctuary born during a year of profound unraveling and becoming. A performer of 25+ years, elias has appeared at SFJAZZ Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Yoshi’s, and is currently recording their next release, to the water, arriving in 2027.

elias identifies as a genderqueer, white-bodied witch of English, Welsh, German and Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
