Pembina Emergency Management Exercise

GPREP Enrolled Members Invited to Observe!

GPREP Enrolled Members have been invited to attend an upcoming two-day Functional Emergency Management Exercise hosted by Pembina Pipeline Corporation in Grande Prairie! This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to a large-scale industrial emergency response, see the Incident Command System (ICS) in action, and learn alongside experienced emergency management professionals and regional partners.

The exercise will simulate a pipeline rupture west of Grande Prairie, resulting in a propane release and condensate spill. The scenario begins approximately eight hours after the initial incident, with emergency response teams working from an off-site Incident Command Post (ICP) to manage the ongoing response. Participants will be working through challenges such as incident stabilization, public safety, coordination with regional stakeholders, planning for residents to safely return to the affected area, and managing impacts to the community.

Why Attend?

GPREP members are welcome to attend as observers, regardless of their level of emergency management experience! This is a valuable opportunity to see how an ICP operates during a complex emergency, observe different ICS positions and sections in action, and gain a better understanding of how industry, municipalities, first responders, and other agencies work together.

Whether you're new to emergency management or have years of experience, observing exercises like this can help build your knowledge, confidence, and familiarity with the processes used during real emergencies. It's also a great chance to make connections with regional partners and bring new ideas and experiences back to GPREP.
