WHAT IS THE LTC CLASS?

Our Texas License to Carry (LTC) class is designed to give you the knowledge and training required to pursue your Texas LTC while helping you better understand the laws and responsibilities that come with carrying a handgun.

The class is approximately 5 hours and includes the required classroom instruction, written exam, and shooting proficiency qualification. Classroom instruction covers Texas laws related to weapons and the use of deadly force, handgun use and safety, non-violent dispute resolution, safe handgun storage, and other important carry laws and responsibilities.

Everything you need for your LTC training can be completed at LoneStar Handgun in San Antonio, including the classroom, shooting qualification, and access to IdentoGO fingerprinting onsite.

Texas also allows eligible individuals to carry a handgun without an LTC. However, an LTC can still provide additional benefits, including reciprocity with other states, certain protections and privileges related to licensed carry, and the ability to use your LTC as an alternative to a NICS background check when purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer.

Even if you plan to carry under Constitutional Carry, understanding Texas carry laws, prohibited locations, use of force, and your responsibilities as a handgun carrier is important. Our LTC class provides that education while also giving you the option to complete the training required to pursue your LTC.

CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY

Want to learn Texas carry laws without pursuing an LTC? Our Constitutional Carry option provides the same classroom instruction as our regular LTC class at a reduced price.

If you decide you want to pursue your LTC, you can upgrade to the LTC option and complete the required shooting qualification.

ONLINE LTC CLASSROOM + SHOOTING QUALIFICATION

Already completed your classroom training through an approved online LTC course provider? You do not need to take the full $90 LTC class.

Register for Shooting Qualification Only — $25 and complete your required shooting proficiency qualification during one of our regular LTC classes.

The online classroom portion can be completed at your own pace from a computer or smartphone. DPS allows the classroom portion to be completed through an approved Online Course Provider, while the shooting proficiency portion must be completed with a Texas Qualified LTC Instructor.

Your shooting qualification begins with our regular LTC class at 9:00 AM and typically takes about 1–1.5 hours, so you should be finished around 10:30 AM. You're welcome to stay for the remainder of the class at no additional cost.

Once you successfully complete the shooting qualification, your LoneStar instructor enters your training results directly into RSD Connect. You will not receive an LTC-101 or LTC-104 training certificate to submit yourself under the current DPS process.

• Handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition — rentals and ammunition are available onsite
• Eye and hearing protection — available for purchase onsite
• Government-issued photo ID
• Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended
