Sketching to Etching

Beyond the hard ground line, this course will take you through the exciting and liberating processes
of sugar-lift, aquatint and spit-bite. These techniques liberate the artist in the etching room, allowing
you to draw with the same freedom you would experience in a sketchbook. Experimental hard
ground and explorative soft ground mark making will finish your etching.
During the weekend, we will aim to work across 2 or 3 different etching plates, providing you with a
series of proof prints. You will be able to work on your own projects at your own pace, with full
support, to achieve finished prints for you to take home.

Suitable for all levels of ability.

Wendy Rhodes is a member of GPC and a knowledgeable teacher with over 25 years’ experience. Wendy holds an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking and she completed a Practice-led PhD (2019) that followed extensive research in the fields of drawing and etching. She specialises in etching and is known for her landscape prints.

Terms and Conditions:

Bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the full cost of the course. If full payment is not made, you will not be allowed to start the course. We reserve the right to cancel the course at a weeks notice if there are less than 4 participants booked.

Please note
We will not be liable for any childcare, travel or accommodation fees lost due to cancellation by us.
You will need to bring your own lunch as there are no facilities nearby. Please bring an apron, some basic kit like pencils, pens, your tutor should get in touch before the start of your course to let you know if there is anything specific you need to bring.

Cancellation Policy:

The sum of £50, will be lost If you cancel at short notice (less than 2 weeks before the course start). If your place cannot be filled, no monies will be returned.
