November: Gifts from the Studio

Grandma doesn’t need another store-bought candle.

This month, Kids Clay Club makes gifts. Over four Thursdays, your maker builds a set of handmade pieces for the people on their list: grandparents, teachers, and whoever else deserves something better than a gift card. Then they glaze them in whatever colors they choose.

New to the club? You’re in the right place. Everything we build this month uses the pinch, coil and slab skills from fall, and we teach them from scratch for anyone just joining.

THE FOUR WEEKS

• Thu, Oct 29: Ornaments. A set of four, cut from slabs, pressed with texture, and signed on the back with an initial.
• Thu, Nov 5: Handprint dish. One small handprint, pressed into clay and shaped into a dish someone will keep for twenty years.
• Thu, Nov 12: Teacher’s pencil cup. Built up from coils, one snake at a time, and decorated to match its new owner.
• Thu, Nov 19: Glaze day. Everyone colors everything. It gets loud.

WHAT YOU’LL TAKE HOME

• Four ornaments
• A handprint dish
• A cup
• About six finished gifts in all

THE DETAILS

When: Thursdays, Oct 29, Nov 5, 12, 19 · 5:00–6:30 PM
Where: Our private studio in La Plata
Who: Ages 5–7 · 6 spots
Price: $140 for all four weeks ($35 a class), or $45 for a single class

GOOD TO KNOW

• Drop-off is welcome. Stay, or take ninety minutes to yourself.
• Please send your maker already fed. We don’t break for snacks, and food and clay don’t mix.
• Clothes that can handle clay. It washes out, mostly.
• A grown-up signs a paper waiver at drop-off on the first day.
• Missed a week? We can’t offer makeups or partial refunds.
• Pieces are fired and ready by early December. Pickup is at the studio. We’ll text you when they’re ready.
• If a piece breaks in the kiln, we’ll make it right.
• Minimum of 3 makers to run.

WHAT’S NEXT

Kids Clay Club runs all year. In January, we build Creatures & Critters: animals with real structure, made from clay that doesn’t fall over. Club members get first pick of seats.
