🧵Practical Sewing Workshop: Button It Up & Patch It Up

Learn the essential skills for replacing buttons, creating buttonholes, and repairing or embellishing clothing with patches in this hands-on sewing workshop! Participants will practice a variety of techniques while gaining the skills and confidence to make practical repairs and add creative touches to their sewing projects.

In this workshop, you will:

Learn and practice sewing two types of buttons:

-Self-Shank Buttons – Learn how to securely attach buttons with a built-in shank.

-Creating a Shank – Practice creating a thread shank for buttons that need extra space between the button and fabric.

-Explore buttonholes and learn techniques for creating functional button openings.

Practice two methods of attaching patches:

• Hand-Sewn Patches – Learn how to securely attach a patch by hand.
• Machine-Sewn Patches – Practice using a sewing machine to attach patches for a durable finish.
• Discover three popular patching styles: Front patches, recessed patches, and decorative patches, including when and where each technique works best.

Get personalized patching advice! Participants are welcome to bring an item that needs patching. Instructors will offer guidance on the best patching method to achieve a neat, durable, and attractive result.

Whether you're replacing a missing button, repairing a favorite garment, or adding a decorative touch to your clothing, this practical workshop will help you develop useful sewing skills that extend the life of your wardrobe and bring new possibilities to your projects!

This workshop is an intermediate level in the sense that participants must have sewing experience and must be able to sew a straight line.
