This Winter Survival 101 workshop is an introductory program for those looking to begin or expand their recreational activities in the winter season. Our goals are to help you build a foundation of outdoor skills and refine your gear preparation to meet the demanding conditions of winter. This course covers the following topics: backcountry preparedness & safety considerations, proper clothing & equipment, tips to stay warm & dry, how to recognize & treat cold weather illnesses, winter environmental hazards, shelter building, and Leave No Trace backcountry skills & ethics for winter.

This course will be held at the Education Yurts beginning at 9:00am and ending around 3:00pm. After a morning of indoor discussion and presentation, we will head outside for an afternoon of skills development. Parking is included with this program and is available next to the Yurts. Please dress warm and be prepared for unpredictable weather. Snowshoes will be available to borrow upon request.

Participants should arrive prepared to learn and bring a writing utensil, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Be prepared to spend a portion of the afternoon outdoors. A gear list is provided in the confirmation email for reference. Please note that no meals or lodging are provided with program registration.
