Beyond the hard line - this workshop explores Sugar Lift, Aqua tint and Spit bite techniques for creative mark marking on your etching plates.

This masterclass will take you through the exciting and liberating processes of sugar-lift, aquatint and spit-bite. These techniques liberate the artist in the etching room, allowing you to draw with the same freedom you would experience in a sketchbook, navigating a way to translate sketches into etchings.
Experimental hard ground and explorative soft ground mark making will finish your etching. During the weekend, we will aim to work across 2 or 3 different etching plates, providing you with a series of proof prints and completed images to take home. Suitable for all levels of ability.

Wendy Rhodes is a member of GPC and a knowledgeable teacher with over 25 years’ experience. Wendy holds an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking and she completed a Practice-led PhD (2019) that followed extensive research in the fields of drawing and etching. She specialises in etching and is known for her landscape prints.

Bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the full cost of the course. If full payment is not made, you will not be allowed to start the course.

Cancellation Policy:
The sum of £50, will be lost If you cancel at short notice (less than 2 weeks before the course start). If your place cannot be filled, no monies will be returned. NEW COVID-19 Precautions
A one way system is put into place, particularly in the downstairs studio
Restricting numbers to 4 students +tutor in both the upstairs and downstairs studio.
Students will be asked to wear masks and gloves.
Presses and shared equipment (keeping this to a minimum) are wiped after use with antibacterial cleaner.
There will be separate inking up spaces for students.
Tutors will demonstrate technique in such a way to ensuring safe social distancing.
Extractor fans will be switched on during courses.
Students on courses run in the downstairs studio will have access to both the upstairs and downstairs toilets.
Students will need to bring all refreshments with them.
