Games are a powerful tool in the math classroom. They allow students time and space to practice math and truly learn math in a relaxed state. Math games provide incredible opportunities for students to talk about math - while also allowing educators to gain valuable insights into their students’ mathematical understandings. This short session will focus specifically on multiplicative reasoning and fractions math games.

In this 30-minute workshop, we will:

Examine why games need to be a critical part of math learning
Explore a few multiplicative reasoning and fractions math games and how they relate to specific High Leverage Concepts (HLCs)
Review extensions and variations for selected games to understand the long shelf life of each of the games
Address questions from the group about multiplicative reasoning and fractions math games
