Introduction to Printing on Fabric using your own designs onto Silk Screens.

This course introduces you to screen printing on fabric, working with colour and producing textile designs from your own ideas. You will use paper stencils to build up fabric designs in multi coloured layers using pigments and dyes.

You will start with simple ideas to understand the process, the studio and equipment and then build up to more complex design and pattern making. Working at your own pace, you will create fabrics that you can use to make products such as cushions, bags and tea towels as well as a starting point for a stitching or quilting project.

This course is for beginners who are new to screen printing as well as intermediate printmakers who would like to further their own practice and gain more of an understanding of the design process, developing ideas and producing a repeat patterns.

Anne Haworth trained as a textile designer with a specific interest in relief printing. She creates monotypes, collographs, cardcuts, woodcuts and linocuts on paper and also transfers them into screen prints on cloth. Anne creates bold, playful images that reflect her love of surface pattern and design. She produces items such as handbags, cushion covers, tea cosy’s, hats, tea towels and aprons and has her own label, ‘curious cloth’ set up in 2014. She is a regular teacher at the GPC.

Bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the full cost of the course. If full payment is not made, you will not be allowed to start the course. We reserve the right to cancel the course at a weeks notice if there are less than 4 participants booked.

COVID-19 Precautions

Students may be asked to wear masks and gloves.
Presses and shared equipment (keeping this to a minimum) are wiped after each session with antibacterial cleaner.
Extractor fans will be switched on during courses in downstairs studio.
Students on courses run in the downstairs studio will have access to both the upstairs and downstairs toilets.
Students will need to bring refreshments with them.
