Perfect for moped and low-powered (50cc) scooter riders who primarily commute in urban environments. This half-day course is designed for riders with some on-road experience looking to enhance their safety skills and confidence in city traffic up to 50km/hour.

📅 Your Half-Day Schedule

1. 🌅 Morning Session - Essential Skills Briefing

The course begins with a comprehensive classroom session covering urban riding fundamentals. You’ll explore essential observation techniques including scanning, head checks, and the IPDA hazard identification process (Identify, Predict, Decide, Act). We’ll discuss road positioning strategies, communication with other road users, and critical safety gear requirements.

Your helmet will be fitted with communication equipment for real-time coaching throughout the practical sessions.

2. 🛵 Practical Skills - Urban Riding Foundation

We start with fundamental control exercises focusing on positioning, speed management, and smooth progression. You’ll practice essential braking techniques - learning to use both front and rear brakes effectively could literally save your life one day.

Next comes TUG communication practice (Takes in, Uses, Gives information) - mastering how to read other road users’ intentions whilst ensuring they see you.

3. 🏙️ City Riding Practice

You’ll navigate real urban traffic with your instructor providing guidance through helmet communication. Practice includes:

Moving confidently in and out of traffic flow
Navigating various intersection types
Mastering positioning to maximise visibility
Identifying and avoiding common urban hazards

4. 🛣️ Advanced Urban Skills

Focus shifts to more challenging urban scenarios including:

Riding curves with proper entry, apex, and exit positioning
Managing complex intersections and roundabouts
Using special vehicle lanes (transit and bus lanes)
Defensive riding strategies for city environments

5. 💬 Debrief & Ongoing Development

We conclude with a comprehensive debrief around 1pm. You’ll receive personalised feedback on your riding, specific areas for continued practice, and guidance on further training options to advance your motorcycling journey.

📋 What You Need to Bring

✅ Essential Requirements:

⏰ Arrive 5 minutes early (punctuality matters!)
🪪 Valid driving licence (no licence = no ride)
⛽ Full tank of fuel
🛵 Moped/scooter with current WOF and registration
🔧 Check your tyre pressures (seriously, CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURES)
🧥 Protective clothing including:
- Approved helmet (not damaged or second-hand)
- Gloves
- Long-sleeved jacket and long pants
- Sturdy, covered footwear (no jandals!)
🦺 High-visibility vest (highly recommended)
🌧️ Waterproof gear if available - we ride in all weather
