Intro To Ukulele Workshop (For Absolute Beginners)

Welcome to our fun, friendly, and professional ukulele workshop for absolute beginners! Our goal is to help you learn how to play the ukulele while meeting new friends and having a great time.

Each lesson is designed to teach you a cool new song with new chords and techniques that will get you playing the ukulele in no time. We’ll cover everything you need to know, from the anatomy of the instrument to tuning and holding it properly, to strumming techniques that make your instrument sound great and keep your fingers pain-free.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn the most common chords that allow you to play a wide variety of songs and how to read chord charts. We’ll also cover basic music theory fundamentals that are crucial to playing fluently. You'll also be introduced to how to read tablature (TAB) so you can play melody and learn common strumming patterns which make songs sound great.

By completing these workshops, you're guaranteed to start your music journey on the right foot, avoiding bad habits that could hinder your progress later. We'll also equip you with and practice techniques that will set you up for success.

We're starting the next round of novice workshops on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. These classes run weekly in the school term.

TUITION PRICE

10 pack of lessons $310 ($31 p/lesson)

5 pack of lessons $180 ($36 p/lesson)

Lesson packs are credited to your student account and can be used over 3 months.

CAN'T ATTEND EVERY WEEK?

That’s totally fine! Just give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you can’t attend, and your student account won’t be debited for the missed class. You’re also welcome to attend a different class of a similar level if that works better for you.

We run ukulele group classes during the school term on Wednesdays at 10:45am (Progressive Beginners) and 12:00pm (Intro Class). We understand that holidays, work, and babysitting commitments come up, so you’re welcome to attend when you can and miss weeks when you’re unavailable.

A quick note for brand new players: regular weekly classes, especially at the beginning, really help with progress. We cover core fundamentals in the first few weeks and revisit them often, plus we recap the previous song and introduce a new skill or song each week. Missing the occasional class is no problem, but if you expect to miss larger chunks of time, a private lesson in between can help bridge the gap and keep you feeling confident.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE INTRO WORKSHOPS?

At the end of the Intro to Ukulele Workshops, students are typically eager to continue, so you'll be welcome to continue lessons with the same group of people at the same day and time. Students who advance quickly are welcome to join our Progressive Beginner class held at 10:45 am on Wednesdays. You can purchase another 5 or 10 lesson pack to suit your budget and availability for lessons.

Students have found the online materials makes all the difference to achieving their goal of playing ukulele as they can revise concepts covered in the workshop during their practice sessions at home. The combination of face-to-face lessons and online videos is your best option if you want to play ukulele easily in the shortest possible time without overwhelm and confusion.

If you can not make one of the lessons you’re welcome to catch up the lesson in another group (of similar level) in-person or online within 3 months. 24 hour notice must be given via our Student Portal so your student account isn't debited for the lesson. Missed lessons can't be used against other classes or private lessons and can't be credited or refunded.

NOTE: If you are not a complete beginner then our Progressive Beginner Workshops will be a better fit. Here you’ll learn to play more complicated songs and rhythm patterns, riffs etc. Perfect if you know the basics but want to expand on your skills and repertoire.
