Course Overview: In order to capture the photographs you’ve always imagined, it is essential to understand the fundamentals of photography and how your camera truly works. This course is designed for students who own a 35mm SLR or mirrorless digital camera and want to move beyond auto mode to take more confident, compelling images. Through a combination of classroom instruction and guided photography outings in the surrounding area, you will build both technical understanding and creative confidence. Core concepts such as composition, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and how they work together, will be explored in practical, approachable ways. Each outing reinforces the subject discussed that day, allowing students to apply new skills immediately. Photo shoots will include landscapes, animals, action photography and creative techniques using slow shutter speeds.

By the end of the course, you will feel more comfortable communicating with your camera and making intentional choices behind the lens. Whether you want to elevate your landscape photography, capture beautiful family moments at the cottage or snap the perfect photo of your pet, this course will help you get there.

Course fee: $400.00 (General) or $365.00 (Senior 55+). HST is not included in the price.
This course is based at the Belleville Campus at 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON K8N 5B9. Participants will travel by car to a variety of nearby locations, with travel times of 30 to 40 minutes. Please ensure you can drive to and from these locations.
Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the course start date.

Supplies:

35mm SLR or mirrorless digital camera, film cameras can also be used.
Laptop to organize and edit photos and photo cards.
An external hard drive is also recommended, but not required.
