Mayo Clinic employees and contract support staff must register to confirm participation on the Planned Emergency Response Team (PERT).

Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are expected to provide in-house staffing coverage during activation of the Hurricane Plan. In-house staffing will be determined by on-call schedules which will coincide with the Planned Emergency Response Team (PERT) activation period. This is the period when all assigned Allied Health, Physicians, APPs, and trainees remain on-site while all other staff evacuate the campus. When initiated by the Medical Staff Officer, on-call schedules and department Chair directives will establish the required complement of in-house staff. Exempt (salaried) employees will receive 12 hours of paid time off (PTO) for every 24 hour period worked. Assigned in-house Physicians providing hurricane coverage will receive 1 shift credit for every 24 hours beyond the pre-scheduled working days or shifts.

In order to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, you should begin making preparations for work and home now.

Make arrangements for family and pets well in advance, as they are not allowed on campus.
Arrive on campus at the designated time and remain in the facility for the entire duration of the event (estimated up to 5 days).
Cots and beds are not provided; bring what you need for sleeping (e.g. air mattress, sleeping bag, sheets, pillows, etc.). Sleep spaces will be assigned prior to the event. Providers with private offices within the Mayo Building will use the space for sleeping.
Meal service may become more limited for longer duration events; staff are encouraged to bring their own comfort food and drink.
The parking garages will be open for staff parking. Consider arrangements to be dropped off and picked up from campus or carpool. Do not bring additional vehicles, watercraft, or other personal property on campus.
For early closure, late opening, or full-day closure; non-exempt employees may choose to code their time as Paid Time Off (PTO) or unpaid time off. Exempt staff will be required to use PTO (not unpaid time) during reduced staffing and work unit closures in accordance with the Allied Health Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy and the Emergency Staffing Plan Policy (links only work on the Mayo network).
