Intermediate Surface Design

Ready to take your pots or sculptures to the next level? This 6-week class is designed for students who want to go beyond form and dive into the world of surface decoration and design.

We’ll explore a wide range of techniques that add depth, texture, and personality to your work. This class is all about experimentation, layering, and developing your own visual style.

We’ll work with a variety of materials like slips and glazes and processes like water etching and wax resist to create richly layered surfaces.

Sgraffito
Mono printing
Water etching
Underglazes
Slip
Wax Resist
“Painting” with Glaze

This class is best suited for students who have taken at least 2 or more classes and are comfortable making basic forms on the wheel or hand building, as the focus will be on surface exploration rather than beginner skills.

Come ready to experiment, get a little messy, and push your creativity further than ever before.

What to bring:
A towel, and clothes you don’t mind getting messy — or an apron.

Ideal For:

Students with previous hand building or wheel-throwing experience (at least 2 prior courses)
Potters looking to explore surface design

Includes:

25 lbs of clay
6 weeks Studio Access
2 weeks after class ends to finish all work
Weekly Open Studio time outside of class to practice and explore

Students will meet for 2.5 hrs, 7pm- 9:30pm, once a week for six weeks. You will be able to progress at your own speed and instruction will be catered to your particular skill level.

The class must have 6 people to run.

Students must be 18 years or older. Some exceptions can be made. Contact Delores with requests before registering your child.

We do not offer personal make up days since all of our classes are full.Typically instructors repeat lessons so if you miss one week you'll have the demo next time. We also offer open studio, access to the studio on the weekends and some weekday options for students to come in and practice.
