Botanical Illustration: Hydrangea
In this Botanical Illustration Class - you’ll learn how to draw a lovely hydrangea. Emphasis will be placed on leaves. You’ll learn new techniques to make your leaves look more realistic.
Supplies:
Hot-Press watercolor paper is the best (Bristol Vellum Smooth will also work)
Black Micron Pen for line work -nib size - at least 02. ( I use 0.4)
For hatching, black micron pen: 005
For leaves: Faber Castell Polychromo Pencil: Dark Sepia #175
Regular pencil
For the leaf technique - you’ll need to be able to have a very sharp point on your pencil. Make sure you have a manual or electric sharpener that will give you that sharp point. I use a AFMAT Artist Pencil Sharpener (bought from Amazon) for $25.91 and it is worth every penny! :)
For the leaf technique another tool that is very helpful is a very small embossing tool. If you have any ‘dot-art’ tools a very small tip tool would work. You can also use the back side of a dull knife.
