Pony Diaries - Tue AM Sept-Dec 2024 (14 weeks)
Pony Diaries is our program for homeschoolers, ages 5-13. Attendees might be brand new beginners or competent to independently walk, trot and beginning to canter, or somewhere in between.
Once our riders reach age 9+ and are confident to halter and tack their pony and ride independently, we also offer our half or full day Jr Apprentice program.
Children learn to ride their horse or pony and engage in horse care, horsemanship and ranch chores. We connect through games, circle, hikes, tack care and related craft activities. All our PD riders are required to help with chores, including mucking, grooming and animal care.
This is a community program, and we value our families building connections together. Most weeks, we are a drop off program. We welcome all Pony Diaries families to stay for the duration of class on the first week and the last week. We also welcome two parent volunteers to stay each week - we will send out a roster, please sign up if you are available!
This fall in our Pony Diaries classes, we will look at first aid for horses and natural first aid for humans. We will be creating some all natural salves, balms and liniments using local plants during the semester.
Our riders experience seasonal arts and crafts created outdoors, using all natural materials. Projects are led by our certified Waldorf teachers, Heather and Sushila. In the spring, we drilled and sanded and wood burned and each rider made their own wooden flower press. Past projects have included knitting, weaving, watercolor, plant dyes, pigment making, cooking, natures first aid and more.

Relevant Feedback
We have LOVED our experience with Alotte Horse Ranch. The mentors are amazingly patient and kind, and are such loving and gentle leaders. While also exemplifying hard work, and keeping a high standard. My daughter is 7, and it has grown her work ethic, helped her to focus, and she has learned an immense amount in 7 short weeks. So grateful to Lotte, Heather, and all of the crew. Thank you!
