Tea Champion Practical Online Course - TCP C52 (weeknights)

This course is designed for anyone who has completed the Tea Champion Theory self-study course. The three webinars will together cover all the practical elements of our Tea Champion course (tasting, brewing, blending, etc) that could not be taught in the theory courses.

Having completed the Tea Champion Practical course, students can then take the Tea Champion multiple-choice exam (no additional cost) in order to qualify as a UK Tea Academy Tea Champion.

Price: £275 inclusive of VAT

£25 postage for non-UK addresses. Restrictions apply, please make sure you read the information on this page carefully before making your booking, especially if you live in Spain or Portugal.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • The basics of tasting and how we taste
  • Brewing with filtered and unfiltered tap water
  • The correct and incorrect water temperature
  • The correct and incorrect steep time
  • Terroir and tasting similar teas from different origins
  • Tasting and assessment of at least 25 teas from around the world, including black, green, white, oolong, puerh and flavoured teas
  • Re-cap of tea manufacturing methods for the 6 categories of tea
  • Blind tasting

This course consists of 3 x 120 minute webinar modules, delivered through Zoom meetings. There will be some homework activities in between each module. All teas will be sent to you in advance of the first webinar. UK-based students will also receive a Brita water filter, although overseas students will need to supply their own.

There are additional mandatory equipment requirements for everyone registered on this course. We will send you a list with full instructions and options for brewing equipment after you have booked your place, but please note that you will be asked to source some essential kit.

It is important that you are available to accept your tea delivery (please note we cannot deliver to PO Boxes), as the course cannot be taken without the correct teas.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need to attend the webinars with immediate access to a good-sized surface on which to prepare the teas and make notes, as well as access to a kettle for heating water, and other small pieces of kit. We recommend that you take these webinars in a kitchen with access to water, waste and a suitable surface in case of spillage.

1. Your computer or phone to join the webinars via Zoom

2. Access to filtered water Access to filtered water (not mineral water) is an essential requirement for this course.

3. Access to a printer We will be releasing handouts, homework tasks and supporting materials such as charts, some of which will you may wish to print out so that you can use them and make notes as you progress through the course.

4. A surface on which to prepare teas, and some necessary teaware items - a list of items will be provided in your customised course resource centre online, which you will get access to three weeks before your course.

5. Brewing and tasting utensils Prepare your own from the list we will share with you, which will include suggested brewing equipment that you should already have in your kitchen.

PLEASE NOTE: all webinars are delivered live through zoom and are recorded and later shared privately with the class. In this way, anybody who misses a webinar or wishes to re-watch and brew the teas again, can do so in their own time. By booking this course, you are giving permission for the webinars to be recorded and shared with your small class of trainees.

I really enjoyed the tea practical course! It was such a great experience to taste the different teas alongside the teacher and fellow students. The teacher was incredibly well-prepared and very patient. It created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere where we could ask questions and learn. Overall, it was a wonderful learning experience!

Thoroughly enjoyed all three sessions with Beverly and our small group.

I approached the course as someone who sells a little tea, drinks a lot of tea and was interested in developing my knowledge further and it very much surpassed my expectations.

I particularly enjoyed having the space and time to contrast and compare teas, taking a moment to consider the notes and take things much further than “I like this” or “I don’t like this”.

Beverly was kind enough to share lots of her knowledge and stories and was wonderful. Thank you!

Very much looking forward to jumping into the sommelier course!

Very much enjoyed the course. Our teacher Carri Hecks was very knowledgeable and encouraging. Initially, I was sceptical, if webinars suit my learning style, preferring a class room format. But now I think it benefits students, as there is time in-between to let the info sink in and also to try more teas! It was nice to e-meet fellow tea enthusiasts.
