This small-group session is designed for beginners who want to try their hand at the potter’s wheel. Over 90 minutes, you’ll learn the basics of working with clay, including how to prepare it, center it on the wheel, and shape a simple pot. The session is hands-on, with step-by-step guidance to help you get a feel for the process.
You’ll start with a demonstration before getting on the wheel yourself. With plenty of practice time, you’ll work on basic throwing techniques such as pulling up the walls and shaping a cylinder or small bowl. Mistakes are part of the learning process, and there’s plenty of support to help you improve.
At the end of the class, you can choose to have your best piece fired and glazed for a small extra charge, ready for collection at a later date. No prior experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
