Recert SFA Level C (St. John Ambulance)

This is a classroom-based 1-day course that recertifies you in the St. John Ambulance-certified Standard First Aid course.

It recertifies “Standard First Aid with Level A or C CPR” with the CSA-standard compliant "Intermediate First Aid with Level C CPR".

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY:

  1. Your current SFA certificate MUST be valid on the day of the course. Expired certifications cannot be recertified.
  2. You must bring a copy of your SFA certificate with you to the course. If you no longer have a copy, you must contact Saint John Ambulance to have a copy issued to you.
  3. This course is not a training course, it is a test challenge course. You MUST STUDY IN ADVANCE.
  4. Study materials are available in one of two ways: a) coming in advance to our facility to pick up a physical book -- b) download the latest version of the Saint John Ambulance Reference Guide in PDF form from Saint John Ambulance.
  5. This course is intended for individuals who have maintained their first aid skills and wish to challenge for recertification. If you have not had cause to maintain your first aid skills, we strongly recommend enrolling in a two-day Intermediate First Aid training course.

Course Content

Not everyone wants or needs to take the full two-day Standard First Aid course every three years to maintain their certification status. For those whose skills are still sharp, they can take this recertification course instead.

The course is challenge-based, such that you will need to demonstrate your competency in all the required skill areas for Standard First Aid (Level A or C). It is best taken only if you use your first aid skills often, as unsuccessful challenges are not refunded and then you would need to take the full course to recertify.

IMPORTANT: Prerequisites and PPE

You must have a currently-valid certification in Standard First Aid Level A or C (which means your certificate is not yet expired) in order to enroll in this course. This certificate can be from St. John Ambulance or from another Alberta OHS-approved program such as Canadian Red Cross or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Please inquire to ensure your certification qualifies.

You don’t need to bring along any personal protective equipment (PPE).

Note: All courses require you to have government-issued photo ID.
