Learn to Skipper!
Ready to take command?
This three-day intensive builds the skills and confidence you need to command or crew a cruising keelboat confidently. Learn aboard our fun and responsive boats in protected waters near Sidney, BC.
What you'll receive
Beyond the basics: You'll master boat handling under sail and power, practice crew overboard recovery, set and retrieve anchors, interpret weather forecasts, read charts and tide tables, and apply collision regulations. These aren't just skills for a test—they're tools you'll use every day.
Learn aboard a modern performance cruiser: Our boats, Student Driver and Sloop du Jour, are forgiving enough for new skippers yet spirited enough to teach you real boat handling. You'll develop confidence on vessels that respond to your input and reward good technique.
Sail Canada certification: You will earn either Sail Canada's Basic Cruising or Basic Crew standards with credentials recognized at sailing schools across Canada. These certifications are essential steps on your journey to chartering a sailboat and will open doors to sailing clubs and co-ops.
Small group attention: With a maximum of four students, you'll get individual coaching and plenty of time at the helm. Our experienced instructors adapt to your learning style and help you master the skills that matter most.
