Advanced Garden Planning (2 session program)
Advanced Garden Planning is an in-depth course designed for experienced gardeners who already have established growing spaces and want to plan more intentionally and efficiently. This class is also a natural next step for those who have completed the Intro to Organic Vegetable Gardening course and are ready to deepen their skills. Participants will learn directly from the Eco-Justice Center’s Land Stewardship Manager, Alex Weyenberg, an experienced grower who brings years of hands-on knowledge and practical insight into sustainable food production.
The 2 part course explores the principles of biointensive gardening and guides participants through detailed site assessment, soil testing, and understanding soil structure and fertility. Advanced pest management strategies using integrated pest management (IPM) will be covered, along with comparisons of plant spacing in biointensive versus conventional systems. Participants will learn how to plan for success by setting clear goals and target dates, implementing succession planting and relay cropping, and approaching garden planning and revision with a market gardener’s mindset. Emphasis will also be placed on journaling and documenting garden observations over multiple seasons to support long-term learning and improvement.
Participants will take home:
- A comprehensive, personalized garden plan for the 2026 growing season
- A compost tea starter kit

Part 2 - Saturday, 3/14 - 1:00-4:00pm
